A decade of work by Great Places Housing Group working with Manchester City Council has transformed the Northmoor area of Longsight, three miles from Manchester City Centre, from a crime-ridden no-go area of boarded up and sometimes burned-out homes to a busy, diverse and vibrant area where people want to live, work and invest.  Residents, who were adamant that they did not want to see wholesale demolition have played a key role in the vision for a neighbourhood with less crime, more green spaces, bigger houses and calmer streets.

TADW have been involved from the beginning with the refurbishment of the Grade II listed former Beswick Co-op Building creating 19 loft style apartments, retail units and a community centre providing a focus for the community.  Further involvement with external group repair schemes followed, together with new-build infill housing.

A redundant launderette was purchased and refurbished with public funds, now providing a vibrant community internet launderette in the possession of the community as a long term asset.

Shortlisted in 2007 for the RICS North West Awards
