Context
Situated at the edge of the green belt, this site was formerly occupied by Samuel Laycock School. Samuel Laycock was a dialect poet and the name of the development is in reference to his last publication, just before his death, of ‘Warblins fro’ an Owd Songster.’
Outline planning permission for residential use had previously been obtained for the site and we worked with The Casey Group to support their bid for the site by maximizing the development potential. This consisted of early sketch scheme studies and liaison with the local planning authority.
Design
The site is bounded to the west, north and east by open space and is right on the edge of the green belt. Views toward the green space were incorporated at strategic points of the development while ensuring the security for future residents by maintaining good passive surveillance and boundary treatments.
The massing and materials of the development were influenced by the surrounding area and brickwork detailing that also referenced features on surrounding properties was incorporated to add a sense of place to the development.
